New Ubud Gallery opens with exhibition of Indonesian Art
Ubud has long been recognised internationally as the bohemian region of Bali and a centre of cultural excellence. Famous and infamous artists have made their home here, and Ubud continues to inspire artisans from around the world.
The new NKRI Gallery, set in the stunning private grounds of The Ayung Resort Ubud, is set to reinforce Ubud’s reputation and appeal. NKRI Gallery is a newly developed feature of the 5star luxury resort. The gallery will complement the dramatic and eclectic collection of paintings, statues and object d’Asian art, amassed over a lifetime by the resort owner, which is on display throughout the year.
The inaugural exhibition will feature collections of two artists, whom both share a love and passion for Indonesia and Bali in particular.
John van der Sterren hails from Sukabumi, West Java. He is widely regarded as one of the leading landscape painters in Asia. His signature white beard and straw hat are the trademarks of a painter known throughout the archipelago for sketching scenes of a vanishing history. A favorite of discerning collectors, his work has established the artist as an Indonesian art legend.
Ketut Gede Susana is a young, talented native Balinese pencil drawing and oil on canvas painter. His work is sensitive detailed and strikingly appealing. He has developed a truly unique technique to create intricate and mesmerizing visuals, in soft hues and monochrome.
“We are delighted to be able to open NKRI Gallery with two very diverse artists, who share a common bond of Bali” said Frits Henskes, GM of The Ayung Resort. “We intend to showcase established and emerging Indonesian artists and their collections throughout the year.
We look forward to welcoming art lovers and others passing through Ubud to NKRI Gallery, and hope their visit enhances their enjoyment and appreciation of both Ubud and Bali”.
NKRI Gallery is open to residents and visitors from Saturday March 24 onwards, 7 days a week 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.
